The Honda NSX, at present, is at the foreground of conversation when discussing the marque of Honda.

Founded back in 1946 by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa, Honda has since had a long reign of excellence, providing customers with reliable cars in addition to making sporty editions for those who like to live life in the fast lane. They not only manufacture cars but motorcycles too, in addition to jet aircrafts and jet engines – Honda even have their own airport!

Honda is now 70 years old and has created many cars to put through production. Some of these include: the Civic, Civic Type R, S2000,  Accord, CR-V and the NSX. The NSX is making headlines at the moment as a new model of the 1990 original version is set to be released this year…

The Honda NSX

The original NSX was put into production from 1990-2005, a 15 year span of intelligent engineering proves just why the production period lasted so long. There were three versions made during this time:

  • Honda NSX Coupé 3.0 V6 2d (1990-1998)
  • Honda NSX Coupé 3.0 V6 2d Auto (1990-2005)
  • Honda NSX Coupé 3.2 V6 2d (1998-2005)

The NSX Coupé 3.0 V6 2d, is the slightly faster version out of the three. With a 6 speed manual gearbox and 276bhp, it can reach a top speed of 170mph. It can get from 0-60mph in an impressive 5.5 seconds and its reputation precedes itself, especially amongst owners and Honda fans.

The new Honda NSX, which is set to be put into production this year, is an astonishingly beautiful car (one that many cannot rival). It’s happy to be driven day to day but can completely transform itself into an aggressive tarmac warrior when needed. It is a hybrid, with a twin-turbo hybrid power-train. It consists of a v6 petrol engine alongside three electric motors. Its all-wheel-drive and can achieve over 550bhp. The style of the car puts it in a similar category to that of the Audi R8 with its sporty yet sophisticated, streamlined surface. It has 4 central exhausts located at the back and has LED lights to brighten things up a little.

This car is set to add a spanner in the works of rival car markets. Hybrid cars offer efficiency and a step towards going green. This hybrid model does that, in addition to letting you take it out on a track and potentially (or maybe, quite easily) lap some of its fuelled rivals such as the 911. Oh, and did we mention it has a beautifully stylish appearance?

Evo Magazine

Throughout 2015 we worked closely with Evo Magazine. In the February 2016 edition of the magazine, they have created a ‘Market’ section with the ‘hot topic of discussion’ being the ‘Japanese Import Scene’. As well as topics of featured discussion, Evo Magazine also lists a few of the Japanese cars almost everybody would have heard of:

  • The Subaru Impreza 22B
  • Honda NSX
  • Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32)
  • Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI

We were glad to see the recognition of the NSX.

Alex from our Sales team also had the opportunity to write a feature for the issue. The feature revolves around insurance for the Japanese imported car scene:

Buying a Japanese Import is an exciting prospect – they tend to be rare cars, not originally intended for the UK, but you need to keep this in mind when insuring them. Always confirm that the insurer is covering the exact imported Japanese model – some non-specialist insurers will only be able to cover the UK equivalent and you should avoid these as you don’t want to risk having the wrong model on cover.

For higher-valued Imports, an agreed-value policy could be beneficial, and request like-for-like cover on any modifications, that way your pride and joy will be put back to your spec, not the original spec.

The credit attributed to Japanese car marques is incredible. Honda (as one of these marques) never seem to disappoint, especially when it comes to the level of precision they put into making each and every car.

In addition to the NSX, one of our other favourites is the S2000; you can read all about it here.
