So, the new Audi A8 is set to be world’s first autonomous production car (according to reports). The car is set to have ‘Level 3’ autonomous driving technology, which uses extremely advanced technology. It allows the driver to sit back and enjoy the ride (whilst the car does all the driving). But, do you think you could relax?

The car is set to make its debut in 2017 – we eagerly await this with anticipation…

Performance Car: the Audi A8

According to ‘spy’ reports, the car is a similar shape and body to that of the current ‘Audi A6’ model.
According to other reports the car will boast a 48v electrical system which will help in achieving both hybrid and non-hybrid model potential. This will in turn, give the performance and energy levels of the car an extra push. At present, there’s no sign of a fully electric model. The question is, with so many different types of engines and chassis set-ups set to be provided, will this cause ‘making a decision’ on which to buy a rather strenuous task? Apparently not – Audi’s CEO states.

There’s also talk about town that it will come with ‘organic LED lighting’ and piloted autonomous car technology (which gestures control). Maybe you would agree that this will be taking the technological capabilities of the car to the next level?

Automated Driving Experience

The A8 is set to come with ‘long-range radar sensors’, ultrasonic sensors, high-resolution video cameras, laser scanners, and more. As previously mentioned, the car will feature ‘level 3 autonomous technology’, allowing the car to drive through traffic in a safe manner of speeds up to 37mph.

The displays within the car are set to be ‘gesture controlled’, adding further weight to the car practically being ‘hands-free’. The gestures will include: answering phone calls, adjusting the temperature, and switching between radio stations. This feature, alongside autonomous driving, enables the user of the car to have an experience like no other – it’s almost virtual reality.

The look of the car will also be changing, despite initial spy reports claiming it to look similar to the current ‘Audi A6’ model. Although no-one knows for sure as to what the final product will look like, it’s rumoured to be bolder than ever before!
