Specialised Covers are experts in their field of creating custom car and motorbike covers. They’ve even created covers for marques such as: McLaren, Bentley, Koenigsegg and more.

Founded in 1981 by Carole and Douglas Long, Specialised Covers is a family run business. They are based in Shipley, West Yorkshire and carry out work for customers all over the UK.

We spoke with them and asked them some questions about the types of services that their business offers. After all, if you own an incredible vehicle, surely you want to protect it? Especially with the worsening winter weather!

What types of services does the business offer?

Specialised Covers focuses on tailor-made car, motorbike, and caravan covers.

How many customers have you worked with?

We’ve worked with thousands of individuals and collectors, including the Royal Family, as well as TV and sports personalities. We also work with: McLaren, Bentley, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Audi, and Lotus.

Have you ever had your work featured anywhere?

It has been featured many, many times! We also design and manufacture covers for the Bloodhound SCC. One of our covers was featured on TV all around the world when the vehicle made its first public run in October. For more information on this, click here. 

What’s the most expensive car you’ve ever designed a cover for?

We produce covers for some of the worlds most expensive cars; We have designed and made covers for LaFerrari Aperta worth over £7.5 million. We also work with Koenigsegg producing covers for their £1million+ cars. The Bloodhound SCC (as a project) is also worth £45 million!

What Marques do you work with the most?

On a private level, it can change but Porsche and BMW (all models) are all very popular. On a manufacturer level, McLaren.

What makes ‘Specialised Covers’ so great?

We’re still a family company, with Carole and Doug still involved on a daily basis. Specialised Covers was established after Carole made a cover for Doug’s Ferrari from an old dust sheet. The ‘cover’ was spotted by a UK Director of BMW and the rest is history. Vehicle protection is, and always will be, at the heart our business.

Our products are tailor made – we certainly don’t do ‘one size fits all’. We make covers just how a tailor would make a suit.

Do you have any advice for someone who would want to work within your industry?

Our industry is quite niche as your passion could be cars, textiles, or design! Our design team could be patterning a McLaren one day, then next it could be a helicopter! There are so many different areas within our business. It’s certainly varied so you need to be on the ball, but it’s never dull. You meet some wonderful people from vehicle engineers to keen caravanners and bikers!
