2016 is here and with the dawn of the New Year, many resolutions are made, especially by New Drivers. Many feel it's time to step up their game and get from A to B in the driver's seat.

Here at Safelyinsured, we believe in helping New Drivers on their journey. Not only do we love cars but we also understand why it's so important for so many people to have their own independence. Whether it be to get themselves to work in the mornings, or simply pop to the shop to pick up some supplies.

New Drivers' Resolutions

So, it's now January, the start of a brand new year. You've decided you want to start learning to drive and you've also decided that you're going to stick to this resolution (even if you don't stick to any of your others). What should your plan be? We've decided on three simple steps, whereby if you focus on each aspect equally, you'll be a pretty good driver in the long run:

  1. Practice driving more often
  2. Pass your driving test
  3. Drive well after you've passed, not just for your test

Step 1 - enables you to build up more confidence to be able to take your driving test.

Step 2 - enables you to drive on the road with a full licence without the need for an accompanying driver.

Step 3 - ensures you continue to drive well. This will in effect, help to reduce your insurance premiums over time.

The Benefits of Practice

The majority of people will have lots of hours of driving lessons before they take their driving test. This is so they can feel prepared, able and confident on the day. Through research of our own, we've found that if you combine driving lessons with private driving practice, not only do you gain more confidence for the day of the test, but you also gain more experience and learn to become more aware of your surroundings. From our research, this gives learners a higher chance of passing their driving test.

The Driving Test

When it comes to taking your driving test, you will have to complete two parts; the Theory Test and the Practical Test. These are designed to test your knowledge on road safety and laws, in addition to testing your practical ability out on the road.

According to statistics from the Government - figures in regards to the driving test are on the rise. The figures are taken from a report in respect of the period from: July - September 2015. Here are some of the statistics during this period:

  • The amount of tests conducted was 383,810 - which is a 3.5% increase from the same period in 2014.
  • The amount of tests passed was 181,110 - which is a 2.9% increase from the same period in 2014.
  • The overall pass rate of the tests was 47.2% which was no change from the same period in the previous year.

It's clear to see that more and more people are realising the importance of driving. As there has been a general increase from 2014 - 2015 in respect of the driving test, hopefully this means that in 2016, even more new drivers will be booking and passing their driving test.

After The Driving Test

After your driving test it is important for you to continue to drive well. It's also important for you to measure your driving performance and improve where necessary. This is where Black Box Car Insurance can help. It not only helps to reduce future premiums (should you continually drive well) but it also enables you to keep track of your driving performance, allowing you to monitor and review it where necessary.

It's important to consider all the aspects of how getting your driving licence can benefit you, such as your independence. So, follow our simple plan for 2016, or create your own. The plan is yours to decide either way.
