Insurance for a BMW M3
The BMW M3 is a car that's held in high regards by many car enthusiasts. It's a high-performance version of the 3 series, which was developed by BMW's very own in-house Motorsport division: BMW M GmbH.
There are many different models of the M3. These models have been derived from previous models, such as: the E30, E36, E46, E90 / E92 / E93 and the F80 3 Series models.
So, what's different about the M3 compared to the 3 series? Well, they have much more powerful engines with a better response rate. As like any upgrade, with a more powerful engine comes an enhanced specification. This upgrade is no different. Its specifications include: upgraded handling, brakes, and suspension. The weight of the car also plays a big factor, the upgrades on the M3 made sure the car had an aerodynamic body with lightweight components. Finally, the design... both the exterior and the interior of the M3 has the tri-colour "M" (which stands more Motorsport).
The BMW M3
The BMW M3 isn't just a car, it's a range of cars. A range of models. We've listed some of the models, but please note, there are a lot more than the 12 we have listed:
- E30 M3
- E36 M3
- E36 M3 Euro-Spec
- E36 M3 GT
- E36 M3 GTR
- E35 M3 Compact
- E46 M3
- E46 M3 GTR
- E90 M3 Performance
- E92 M3 Performance
- E93 M3 Performance
- F90 M3
Let's talk about the original BMW M3 - the E30 M3. This particular model was produced from 1985-1992. In this version of the M3, you could choose whether you wanted a coupe or convertible body style. Both choices were made available to the public.
Throughout its lifespan, it's had 3 different iterations of the engine put into production. The first one produced 192bhp with a catalytic converter, the second produced 197bhp without a catalytic converter, and the final one produced 212bhp with a catalytic converter.
The sportier version, following on from the 212bhp version, was the 'Evolution' model. It was unveiled in 1988 and produced more power than before. It also had larger wheels, thinner glass, a more light-weight boot, a rear spoiler, and more.
The transmission of the E30 models was a 5-speed Getrag 265 manual transmission, and the engine size came in two options: a 2.3 litre and a 2.5 litre. The 2.5 litre engine belonged to the 'Sport Evolution' model, which was a lighter and sportier version of the 'Evolution' model. The Sport Evolution had a limited production run, with only made 600 of them. A classic for car enthusiasts indeed. A 'collectors item' if you wish.

Insurance for a BMW M3
BMW combined style and power in one car when they produced the BMW M3. To this day, new models are still being produced. However, the latest version, the F80 M3, is set to stop production in May 2018 due to not meeting the new emissions regulations.
If you own a BMW M3, or are considering buying one, you'll want to check out the insurance on such a car for yourself first. A BMW M3 is a performance car, if not a high-performance car (for some models). It's also a popular car to modify - changing the wheels is amongst the most popular modifications for those who own it. For this reason, you'll want to look at modified / performance car insurance, as opposed to standard car insurance.
