Car Enthusiast Couples: Meet Amy and Matthew…
Our customers Amy and Matthew are husband and wife. This is their story of how they've incorporated their passion for cars into their lives...
Amy and Matthew got married in New York and they held their wedding reception at the Sharnbrook Hotel (where they host many car shows). They even decided to have their cars at their wedding reception! And guess what? Soon after they were married, they found out that they have a baby enthusiast on the way (and yes, they've already bought him the cutest baby Maserati). They also regularly attend car shows / meets, and Amy's Nissan 350z was featured at the Fast and Furious 6 premier in London... you know, no big deal or anything
There seems to be a common theme amongst all of the cars they own too - the colour blue. Between them they own three cars (they purchased another more 'family friendly' one when they found out they had a baby on the way. They currently own: A Mustang V8 GT, a Nissan 350z, and a Honda Civic FK2 Type-R... all in blue. We wonder whether their baby enthusiast will grow up to like blue cars too? Well, for now, he's got a blue baby Maserati waiting for his arrival!
Amy kindly took the time to talk to us about all three cars and their shared passion for the car scene.
Here's what she had to say...
The Family Car
The Honda Civic Fk2 Type-R
"We bought the Honda Civic Fk2 Type-R as a family car, as we found out we are expecting in September. It's a 5 door with a big boot which ticked all the boxes for us. I can still take it to Jap shows too, which is a huge bonus for me. It’s ultimately already modified and finished from factory so whilst I’m busy with baby, hopefully I won’t feel the need to modify it like I have my previous 14 cars. Oh, and we went for blue to match the Zed (350z) and the Mustang.
This is Hondas 4th generation of Type-R and a huge improvement, in my opinion. I’ve owned an ep3 in the past and wasn’t overly in love with it. However, this Honda is superb in every single way.
It's powered by K20C1, with direct fuel injection in the 2.0 litre inline 4 turbocharged engine. It currently runs at 306 BHP. It's also a 6-speed manual which does 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds and feels faster than my Nissan 3.5 litre 350z! However - I do still prefer my Zed (thankfully). As we are keeping the Zed for sunny days and car shows (when we decide to take more than one car to the same show)."
The Muscle Car
Ford Mustang V8 GT
"The same day we bought the Honda, Matt, my husband, also wanted a new car as his Mercedes soft top wasn’t going to work with a baby. Just like my old Smart car wouldn’t have (all were insured by Safely Insured).
We couldn’t find a cooler car with back seats and a reasonable size boot for a little one coming soon, other than the Mustang V8 GT. Especially for the value of them... a brand-new car for £40,000 that will need for nothing and looks and goes very, very well. Again, it appealed to us as it can be taken to shows straight from the showroom - there's really no need for any more work to be added to it!
We were certainly surprised with how tail-happy the Mustang was. We wanted it to sound like how a V8 should, so Matt has already added a 'Steeda axle back-exhaust' and now it sounds superb. Matt's also going to change the alloys soon, to one size bigger, and add a rear duck-tail style spoiler.
Matt's mustang is a 67-plate shadow edition model. We wanted this one as it’s more distinctive with its black bonnet stripes, lower door stripes and black badges. Not forgetting its unique Mustang 19” alloys (although we are changing these to less spokes and larger 20” soon). It also came with a great sound system and eight-inch sub which of course, ticked another box for Matt too. It’s got the 5 litre V8 quad cam 32 valve engine, with induction and sound tube. It goes from 0-60mph in an impressive 4.7 seconds and has 416 BHP."
The Heavily Modified Car
Nissan 350z
This car, belonging to Amy, has a 3.5 litre V6 engine. Since she's owned the car, it has undergone a complete transformation. One many car enthusiasts dream of... From a silver outer shell, it's now been re-sprayed in the glorious ‘Datsun Sora Blue' colour. It's had a lot of work carried out on it, both on the interior and the exterior. Let's take a lot at just some of the work...
- Bonnet Aero Catches
- 19" 'Wheel Mania' alloys
- Bilstein adjustable coilovers
- Japseed KI Exhaust
- Amuse front bumper
- Amuse rear bumper
- Chargespeed Sideskirts
- Brembo calipers painted
- Blitz rear spoiler
- Full Clarion audio system with multimedia
- Re-trimmed seats
- LED Lighting
- Datsun Fairlady Z Badge
- Ultra-racing strut brace
- Tracker
- Custom built Sub & amp boxes
- Custom built door cards
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Amy for taking the time to talk through all of the above with us. We also wish Amy and her partner all the best for the future. We can't wait to hear all about baby enthusiast, when he arrives. Maybe he'll be attending some car shows very soon? We have a feeling he will, and we also have a feeling he'll be the centre of attention!
